Despotism shown by Purnananda Burhagohain led to the Maomaria rebellion towards the end of the 18th century. He decided to settle in Jorhat where he ruled in a despotic way giving rise topological conspiracies. Maomorias attacked the Ahoms kingdom twice which created unrest in the region. Purnananda Burhagohain tried all kinds of tactics in order to regroup his forces but failed.
