Mother                         Father

XX                                   XY

X      X                        X           Y

after this is  the cross over where one of the X from mom will fusse with X of dad and the other X from mom with Y from dad..

so in the end it will be a XX  and a   XY so if its XX then the child is a girl and if  XY its a boy

Human beings have 46 chromosomes in the nuclei of their cells. Of these. 44 are known as autosomes and the last pair is termed as the sex chromosomes. This last pair is different in males and females. In males, it is XY and in females it is XX.
