The formation of shells seen in mollusks like snails is and example of higher invertebrates. Flatworms , round worms etc are examples of higher invertebrates. The only main difference is that cellular composition is more complex in higher invertebrates compared to that of lower invertebrates. Its just that higher invertebrates have a coelomic cavity which induces free movement and development of internal organs confined within the body wall and fluid cusions protect them from shocks. Lower invertebrates are arthropods, insects, crustaeceans etc. [Please check to be sure.]
