Hand printing started in China. During the rule of the Han dynasty, 206 BC - 220 BC, woodblock printing was done on cloth. Later, in the 1st century printing was done on paper in the Imperial Court. By the 11th century the wooden movable type was invented in Song China. In the beginning the Chinese used only the clay and wood movable type.
