Autotrophs are organisms that make their own food. Photosynthetic autotrophs like plants, algae, and some bacteria capture energy from the sun using chlorophyll. Chemosynthetic bacteria can make their own food from energy contained in chemicals from deep inside the Earth. Heterotrophs rely on other organisms for food.
