The relationship between a society and its politics is the same as that of a compass and a ship!

Let's understand what society is. To put simply, society is an organized group of persons associated together for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic, or other purposes. It is a body of individuals living as members of a community sharing a number of common interests, values and attitudes.

And politics is the play for power. Human beings in all societies reach out for some power, authority, prestige, recognition etc. This want for power and to be known results in mind games, diplomacy, smartness to acquire what humans desire.

Humans are by nature competitive and that gives rise to showcase ones worthiness to the rest of the fellows. This results in politics.

In today's time, where most societies are democracies, politics has risen allthemore. The person in power is considered to have more social backing which speaks for itself.

Apart from basic human tendencies there are other foundations of the relationship between society and politics. Each society is unique and represents certain ideas, affiliations and values. There is a constant need to enlarge these ideas for more popularity.

So our society and the politics we indulge in is a direct reflection of our religion, caste, class, upbringing, mentality etc.

The two are inseparable and can't be studied in isolation.

A society is a group of permanent people or a broad social group, sharing the same space or social territory, who typically have the same political authority and dominant cultural expectations. A polity is an identifiable political force— any organization that has a common identity,  organized into some sort of institutionalized social partnership and has the capacity to mobilize capital. Any other group of individuals, for example the corporate board, the government of a country or branch of a nation, structured for management may be a polity.

Explanation:

  • Societies are defined by relationship patterns (social relations) between individuals sharing a distinctive culture and institutions; the total number of such connections between their component members may be represented as a given society. A broader society often exhibits in subgroups stratification or hegemony trends. Societies create behavioral habits by making those behaviors or words acceptable or unacceptable. Such behavioral trends are regarded as social expectations in a given society. Societies and their values are being modified slowly and constantly. In so long as they work together, a society may allow its members to benefit in ways that otherwise would be difficult on an individual basis, thus making it possible to differentiate both individual and social (common) benefits, or in most cases to overlap. A society may also consist of people who hold the same opinion, regulated within a larger, broader community by their own norms and values
  • A polity may take various forms, such as a state, an empire, an international organization, a political organization and other recognizable organizational structures which control resources. The political group comprises a large number of organisations, many of which form the basic structure of modern countries, such as their subordinate civil and local authorities. Polities do not take over any geographical region, as the resources of one geographic area have not been managed by all political institutions and governments. A polity is also defined as a faction within a larger entity or at different times as the entity itself.  In recent years, when many polities have become more democratic, the legislative body, where authority is given, has grown to a far greater size than just the governing class like monarchy. This can also mean the inclusion of a group such as ethnic groups or gender groups in the present time
