Salt was chosen as a symbol for civil disobidience movement because it was symbol showing peace and power of country.

Gandhiju know that salt is the thing which was consumed by both poor and rich. He knew that affect of monopoly of Britishers over salt production would affect all sections of society.

So, he peacefully started a march from Sabarmati to Dandi and break the salt law.

He also through this movement abolished the monopoly of britishers over salt production and revealed unexposed side of colonial rule
