Answer:

It costs less to produce high quality printing when it is done with offset printing methods. Additionally, the image quality is consistently good as the rubber blanket, on the printing plate, fits itself to the texture of the printing surface, leaving a clean and detailed image every time.

Advantages and disadvantages of using digital publishing over traditional forms of offset publishing, are as follows -

Advantages :

  • The paper usage is reduced, hence the trees are saved which is good for environment. The other resources which needed for a traditional printing are also saved. (eg. ink, cardboard, electricity etc.)
  • The allover cost of publishing of process is significantly reduced.
  • Distribution process is very easy for digital publishing mediums, and there's no problem of "out of print", in this case.
  • The digitally published contents are extremely easy to store within a single storage device, but traditionally published books require a lot of physical space to store them.

Disadvantages :

  • The digital mediums (tablet, Mobile, computer, eBook reader) which are required to access digitally published contents, are still unavailable to major segment of the audience. So the digital publishing is ineffective for this segment of audience.
  • The piracy is extremely easy for the digitally published contents.
  • Traditionally printed books are accepted everywhere, but the digitally published book may not be allowed everywhere. (eg. in a school, where electronic devices are strictly prohibited, the digitally published books get no value in such a place.)
