Changes in human experiences and relationships that alter cultural and social structures are social change. Such shifts take place over time and can have significant and long-social implications. The social movements in civil rights, the rights of women and LBGTQ's rights, are some well known examples of such change
Explanation:
There are 5 approaches to the study of social change
- Evolutionary Approach: Gradual development is studied from simple to complex form by way of a long series of small changes. Every change results in a small alteration of the structure, but a new complex form arises as the cumulative impact of several changes over a long period of time. The four sub-approaches employed by numerous researchers within the evolutionary approach are universal, continuous, cyclical and multi-linear
- Conflict Approach: According to this view, the framework for conflict between different parts of the social system creates more improvements in the economy. The reason why disputes are seen as the catalyst of social change is that there is little incentive to improve if there is agreement and if different sectors are integrated.
- Cultural Approach: Change is examined in cultural terms by examining changing social cultural elements. In this regard, change was studied through processes of sanskritisation and westernization ; through changing small and large traditions; and through the process of universalization.and parochialization
- Structural Change: This approach analyzes the evolving social network and social structures (such as castes, households, factories, administrative structures, etc.) Intercultural, as well as cross-cultural, these social relations and structures have been compared. The systemic study of transition, includes the qualitative nature of new adaptations in the patterned relationships.
- Integrated Approach: In this approach, we integrate
- change direction (linear/cyclical),
- change context (via macro/micro structure levels),
- source of change (via external contacts/internal sources).
- substantive domain of phenomena undergoing change (that is culture and social structure).
