The government had launched the Prime Minister Agriculture Emergency Programme in September 2019, for the supply of birds for the backyard poultry farming

  • Under the initiative around 5 million local chickens were to be distributed to the public across the country at subsidized rates.
  • The initiative aimed at providing sufficient animal protein for undernourished communities and alleviating poverty.
  • The government provided a collection of birds consisting of five hens on the first come first serve basis and, in this regard, the tehsil registration centers were also created.
  • A national identification card holder was provided with up to three sets of birds and a special desk for monitoring the system was built in the National Agriculture Research Center.
