Hello,

All the living beings have to undergo the glucose breakdown in order to release energy for their body work.

In all the organisms,
The first step of this breakdown is known as GLYCOLYSIS.
in this process the glucose, which is a 6 carbon molecule compound is converted into Pyruvate, which is a 3 molecule carbon compound.

Glycolysis takes place in the cytoplasm only and that too in the absence of oxygen.

Now . After this process,
The further breaking of Pyruvate takes place.

This process is different in different situations.

In the presence of oxygen.....

Pyruvate is taken to mitochondria where complete oxidation of pyruvate takes place.
After the complete oxidation

Carbon dioxide is produces along with water.
The main product of this breakdown is ATP that is energy.
32 Adenosine Tri Phosphate is produced after the breakdown of pyruvate in presence of oxygen.

In absence of the oxygen......

1) IN YEAST

The anaerobic breakdown of yeast is different from the muscle cell.
This breakdown of pyruvate takes place in the cytoplasm without oxygen.

The products of this process includes energy along with ethanol.

2)IN MUSCLE CELL

When the muscle cells respire anaerobically, the breakdown of the pyruvate doesn't take place in mitochondria. In fact, it takes place in the cytoplasm only.

After the breakdown of pyruvate 2 molecules of ATP is generated as form of energy along with lactic acid.

This lactic acid only causes the muscle cell to get fatigue.

Hope this will be helping you
