The primary cause of the fourth Anglo-Mysore War was the ambition of Wellesley to destroy the state of Mysore for once and all. When Wellesley was assured of the neutrality of the Nizam and the Marathas, he declared war against Tipu in 1799. Within two months, Tipu was killed and his capital was occupied.
