Pitaji’s voice had echoed through the whole school. All the teachers, along with the headmaster, came out. Kaliram, the head- master, threatened my father and called him names. When Valmiki reached fourth class Kaliram became the Headmaster. He and his teachers tried their best to humiliate and punish Valmiki and his two companions. Almost every day Valmiki was cruelly beaten up in the class. One day the Headmaster asked Valmiki to climb the teak tree and break some twigs and make a broom.
When the writer was in fourth class, the headmaster Bishambar Singh had been replaced by Kaliram who used to hate the low class people. The writer and the low class students faced daily beating. Another cruel teacher Sukkhan Singh too punished them. The headmaster Kaliram asked the writer to sweep the whole school for the three days continuously.
