The European commercial policy must henceforth take on the challenge of the realisation of two apparently conflicting objectives: pursuing the liberalisation of exchanges, the effects of competition in terms of price of which are advantageous to the consumer, and that of reinforcing one's strategy of commercial defence, the impact in terms of profitability of which is to the advantage of the producer. But the analysis shows that in the current global context, where unfair competition is intensifying, a redeployment of commercial defence instruments proves to be indispensable for the re-establishment of a competitive balance which, in the service of a redefined interest of the Community, should be to the adavantage of both the producer as well as the consumer, who is himself a producer as well as a participant in the national activity and the activity of the Community
