LIS as a profession.

Handling large volume of books, magazines and periodicals needs formal training in Library information sciences.

A trained librarian will organise the library in a systematic way so that readers can easily get their books within a short span of time.

LIS not a profession.

Formal education is not needed for handling small libraries. Simple knowledge of classifying books in separate categories is enough.

Hiring a professional librarian is not possible for small schools where teachers are acting as librarians.
