Raja Ram Mohan Roy regarded as Father of Indian Renaissance was belong to Brahmin family lived in Bengal. He was contemporary of Hegel( political thinker) and Ranjit Singh( Maharaja of Punjab). Raja was known for his major contribution in religious and social reform in modern age of India (however it is difficult to determine the Modern Period of India).

He loved his country, but admired British rule in India and employ to open English school and European political and social innovation.

The major contribution of Raja Ram Mohan Roy has given in below:

1. Freedom of Press- Like Milton, raja praised freedom of expression hence he sighed a petition in 1823 addressing this concern to Supreme Court. He appealed “free press has never caused for revolution since it allows people to address their grievances envisaged from the conduct of authority. It creates ground of discontent whereas no freedom of press remained unrepresented and lead innumerable revolutions”

2. Educational ideas- he was an eminent scholar and intellect. He founded first English school in Calcutta and inspired Indians to establish Hindu College (currently a prestigious college in Delhi University) precisely known as Mahapathshala. He opposed Orientalist school of education. He appealed to Lord Amherst to emphasize on scientific knowledge as well as liberal enlightened system of instruction in Education. Swiss economist Sismondi regarded him as great teacher of the union of morality and religion.

3. Law of Female- Raja was one of rare scholars of his time to criticize the crucial aspect of society due to its essence of orthodoxy circle. He raised his voice for Abolition of Suttee, widow remarriage and girl child as equal as male. In 1822 he wrote an essay “Modern Encroachments on the Ancient Rights of female” contain detailed study of Hindu law of inheritance.

4. Humanism and universal religion- he formulated scheme of fundamental spiritual synthesis stressing unity of religious experience based on worship of monotheism. Like David Hume to aspired for doctrine of universal “sympathy”, toleration and love of humanity.
