The Treaty marked the political and constitutional involvement and the beginning of British rule in India. Based on the terms of the agreement, Alam granted the East India Company Diwani rights, or the right to collect taxes on behalf of the Emperor from the eastern province of Bengal-Bihar-Orissa.
Treaty of Allahabad was signed on August 16, 1765 between Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II of Bengal and Lord Clive of the British East India Company after the Battle of Buxar (1764).
It gave the company the diwani rights for Bengal, Bihar, Orrisa. They got huge war indemnity. After this treaty they became politically very strong and the single contender of political power in northern India.
