during the 15th to 18th century the Arab merchant carried the Asian merchandise into Constantinopal of eastern roman ( byzantium ) empire Italian merchants would by the goods and sell them in European countries

Once Vasco-da Gama discovered the new route the European trade with India extended and went on expanding the European trading with India from the 15 to 18 centuries.

  • The discovery of direct sea route to India led to booming up of European trade with India which enlarged in volume later on.
  • Several factors were accountable for opening and development of European trade in India throughout the sixteenth and the seventeenth centuries.
  • Discovery of the all-new sea route to India by the Europeans also helped. Pepper and spices were transported to Europe overland and partly by sea from India and South-East Asia.
  • With rise of the influence of the Ottoman Turks from the early part of the fifteenth century, all these parts came under the control of the Turks.
  • Equally significant factor for expansion of European trade with India was the atmosphere of political stability provided with the establishment of the Mughal Empire in India in between the sixteenth and the eighteenth centuries.
  • Further, the Mughal Emperors provided improved law and order conditions and also displayed favorable attitude towards commerce.

Furthermore, the Mughal rulers favorably treated the Indian merchants and at time protected those from the exaction of their nobles through European travelers like Bernier have noted this otherwise in their travel piece.
