The Non-Cooperation Movement was a significant phase of the Indian independence movement from British rule. It was led by Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi after the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. It aimed to resist British rule in India through nonviolent means,"satyagraha". Protestors would refuse to buy British goods, adopt the use of local handicrafts and picket liquor shops. The ideas of Ahimsa and nonviolence, and Gandhi's ability to rally hundreds of thousands of common citizens towards the cause of Indian independence, were first seen on a large scale in this movement through the summer 1920. Gandhi feared that the movement might lead to popular violence. The non-cooperation movement was launched on 1st August, 1920.

Heya frnd,
The Non - Cooperation Movement was started in (1920 - 1922).
Mahatma Gandhi said , 'The British rule was established and survived in India with the cooperation of Indians. If Indians refused to cooperate, British rule would collapse and Swaraj would come'. The Congress session at Nagpur ratified Gandhiji's call for Non - Cooperation -- not to cooperate with the government.
Non - cooperation was directed against the injustices done by the British in Punjab and Turkey. It began with ---
(1) renouncing of titles and honours given by the British.
(2) boycott of legislatures.
(3) boycott of schools and colleges by students and teachers.
(4) opening of Jamia Milia at Aligarh and Kashi Vidya Peeth at Benaras.
(5) boycott of government officies and courts.
(6) bonfires of foreign goods.
(7) hartals and strikes all over the country.
After 1919, the struggle against the British rule took the form of a mass movement which involved peasants, tribals, students, workers, traders, women, etc. The unity between Hindus and Muslims strengthened. When the Non - Cooperation Movement was launched, people participated in it whole heartedly.
The Britishers retaliated by imprisoning all the important leaders of the movement except Gandhiji.
Thanks
Hope it helps you.
