There are many data selection techniques available in MS Excel that is useful for selecting a cell, ranges, nonadjacent cells and the entire sheet.

1. Selecting a cell:

Before entering, deleting or editing a cell you have to select the desired cell first. To select a cell-

a. Click on the cell. Then the cell will be highlighted.

b. Use the arrow key to select the desired cell or move the mouse above the cell to select.

2. Selecting a range of cell:

a. Select the first cell of the desired range.

b. Drag the mouse to the end of the range or hold the Shift key and press the arrow keys to select the range and then release the shift key.

3. Selecting non-adjacent cells or ranges:

a. Select the first cell or range of the adjacent cell or range you want to select.

b. Then press and hold the CTRL key and select the next cell or range that you want to select.

c. After selecting the adjacent cell or range release the CTRL key.

4. Selecting an entire sheet:

For selecting the whole sheet to make any changes or delete the entire sheet, click on the Select All button.
