The Theory of Citizen Involvement. Citizen participation is a process which provides private individuals an opportunity to influence public decisions and has long been a component of the democratic decision-making process.

A dividing line in the theory of citizenship today is created by the two most important elements that form the core of it.

One is the individual (citizens of India) other is the community as a whole.

The theory of citizenship gives equal rights to all the citizens to pursue their personal interests.

In the face of equality certain citizens are given some extra privileges based on their conditions of birth, caste, race, gender etc.

Such special treatment to few people pose a threat to the ideals of equality that citizenship is meant to uphold.
