Authority :  

It means the right to take decisions and command subordinates . It flows from superior to subordinate i.e downwards . It can be delegated in such a manner that a subordinate cannot escape from his accountability.

 

Responsibility :  

It means the obligation of a subordinate to perform the assigned task. It arises from delegated authority. It flows from subordinate to superior i.e upwards . It cannot be delegated entirely.

 

Accountability :  

It means being answerable on the lack of performance in the job assigned. It arises from responsibility. It flows from subordinate to superior i.e. upwards. It cannot be delegated at all.
