➡️ Sri Lanka is an island notion with a population of two crore.

➡️ The major social groups are Sinhala-speakers which comprise 74% of the total population, and Tamil speakers which comprise 18% of the population.

➡️ Among Tamils there are two subgroups. The Tamil natives of the country are called Sri Lankan Tamils which comprise 13% of the population.

➡️ The rest, whose forefathers came from India as plantation workers during the colonial period are called Indian Tamils.

➡️ Most of the Sinhala-speakers are Buddhists, while most of Tamils are Hindu or Muslim.

➡️ There are about 7% Christians, who are both Tamil and Sinhala.
