The factors on which the time period of a conical pendulum depends are described below.

  • A conical pendulum is one that consists of a mass fixed on an end of a string that has its other end pivoted to some fixed point. It is similar to a simple pendulum but its bob (mass) rotates about the axis of the pivot at a constant speed in a circle, such that the string traces out a cone.
  • The time period of a conical pendulum is given by

T=2\pi \sqrt{\frac{l\cos \theta}{g} }

where,

l = length of the string,

θ = the angle made by the string with the vertical, called the semi-vertical angle,

g = acceleration due to gravity.

  • So, from the above relation, we can see that the factors on which the time period of a conical pendulum depends are:
  1. the length of string (l),
  2. the semi-vertical angle (θ), and
  3. acceleration due to gravity (g).
  • Thus, the above-mentioned are the factors on which the time period of a conical pendulum depends.
