Answer:

Iltutmish (AD 1210–1236)

After his death a few amirs raised his son Aram Shah to the throne in Lahore. But Aram Shah was incapable ruler and the Turkish amirs opposed him. The Turkish chiefs of Delhi invited the governor of Badayun (son-in-law of Qutbuddin Aibak) “Iltutmish” to come to Delhi.

The factors that led to the establishment of Delhi Sultanate are as follows:

  • After Muhammad of Ghor conquered Prithvi Raj and took control of Delhi in 1192, Delhi Sultanate was established.
  • One of his generals, Qutb ud-Din, proclaimed himself sultan of Delhi in 1206 and established the Slave Dynasty, so named because he and several of the succeeding sultans were once military slaves.
  • Balban (1266–87) and Iltutmish (1210–35) were two of the dynasty's most distinguished kings.
  • The Slave dynasty ended in 1290 as a result of constant rebellions by captured lands and competing families.
  • Ala ud-Din Khalji's conquests under the Khalji dynasty (1290–1320) elevated Muslim dominance in India to its highest point before to the Mughal empire.
  • Even in the far south of India, the power of Delhi was acknowledged early in the reign of Muhammad Tughluq, who established the Tughluq dynasty (1325–98).
  • By the time of his death (1351) the Hindu south had regained its independence, and the Deccan had turned into a separate Muslim state, the Bahmani kingdom.
  • His unorthodox leadership and savage temperament had sparked a series of revolts, most notably that of the Hindu Vijayanagar empire in the south.
  • The Delhi Sultanate began to break up into several minor nations under Tughluq's successors.
  • The once-powerful sultanate was overthrown when Timur captured Delhi in 1398, but local rulers persisted there until Babur's invasion and the Mughal conquest.
