Although the peasant movement in India arose in the British period, it intensified and spread across the whole country by 1936 when the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) was formed.
However, the new farmer’s movements in India emerged during the 1980s against the government when the betterment charges for irrigated lands were imposed.
Many farmers had started to commit suicide due to lots of debts, crop failure, and the inability to find a market. Also, the farmers started their movements against landlordism, oppression within the rural entities, and for the cancellation of the farmer’s debts.
Through the movements, the farmer’s had put across the demands that were not pragmatic but too ideal like the need for a better life without debts, land to till, and enough wheat or rice to eat.
However, only a few cases had limited success.

In India the new farmers movement start in the year of 1980 , when the farmers sees that government is forcing new charges for irrigated agricultural lands . Because of losing their crops and losing of income coming from these crops many farmers confer suicide. Not only , this they was unable to find the market for selling of crops.
At that time farmers also start the movement against the "landlordism" and for their rights. They puts their demand infront of government , but at the end only few was fulfill.
