The Vedic society the head male member of the family was know as grihpati or kulpati. Cow was a type of wealth so the wealthy person was known as gomat. The woman has equal rights as men. Education was for both boys and girls. Widows were allowed to remarry in a special ceremony called swamvarah. No Shati system or parda system was in existence. There social divisions-

.Vashiyas

. Shudras

Political organisation

The head of the tribe was known as Rajan. His main duty was to protect his Jana from external attacks by other kings. He received bali, voluntary donation. The Rajan was helped by officers like Gramini, the Purohita and the Senani.

The form of polity implies to the form of governance prevailing to the society, hence during the Vedic period, it was monarchy.

Explanation:

The monarchy represent the king as the leader of the society establishing the rule of governance for the society to function with the accreditation of King to be the next rightful heir of the same clan.  

The formation of Samiti which were the political organization for the function of legal and executive powers, considered as the supreme authority.  

The society had the administrative categorization as King \rightarrow Vishapati \rightarrow Gramini \rightarrow Kulpa.
