The French society in 28th century, was divided into three estates. The first estate consisted clergymen, the second estate consisted of the nobles and the third estate consisted of the common people mostly peasants.

The peasants comprised of 90%of the French population. One of the main reason why the revolution started was because only the the people of third estate paid taxes to the state. The first and second estate people were exempted from paying taxes.

The clergymen and nobility enjoyed many privileges. The nobles extracted feudal dues from the peasants. The church also collected religious taxes called "Tithe". The members of third estate had to pay direct tax to the state called "tallie". Indirect taxes were imposed on Tobacco, salt and many other everyday items. Thus the third estate suffered from economic difficulties.
