Discuss the growth of education sector in India since 1951.

The following points may help you:

a. Education is the backbone of society and is the basis for growth , progress and development of any country. 
b. Government since Independence has made concerted efforts to spread literacy among the people, to make them self reliant and give them opportunity an to learn. Therefore number of initiatives and steps have been taken in improve the education sector and to enhance the quality of education and can be regarded as some of the achievements in the field of education.
c. Government has taken some effective steps and measures to encourage education among the children like Narvodaya Vidayala has been established in each district.
 d. Government has recognised right to education as the fundamental right which aims at providing free and compulsory education to children up to age of 14. It can surely be considered as a landmark achievement. We also have the District Education Revitalization Programme in 1994 to improve and revamp primary education system. The programme has helped in opening of new schools in every district.
e. National literacy mission, Srava Shiksha abhiyan, mid day meal programme were some of the other programmes launched by the government  and has helped in spreading education to all as to attain universalization of education. 
f.The government has also established community centres, youth clubs, training centres, mahila mandals , Polytechnics, Adult Education Centres, Shramik Vidyapeethsin states , Functional Literacy for Adult Women to promote adult education. 
g. The Indian government has made efforts to revamp the government schools, in terms of improving its infrastructure, providing for computer laboratories etc. 
h.National policy on education aimed at improving education at the secondary level. 
i. The government also provided for stress free examinations system to students, a significant effort has been made in this regard by abolishing compulsory CBSE X examination for students and making them optional. 
j. Government has set up many universities, technical institutes, management institutes,has encouraged private universities, Engineering colleges, medical colleges to provide vast array of opportunities to students. 
k. The government is also contemplating of introducing foreign universities setting up their campuses in India. 
l. Government has also provided for option of distance education learning to students.
m. Programmes like back to school camps, mid day meals have been initiated.
