Answer:

  • In this literary work  ‘General Your Tank is a Powerful Vehicle’ the playwright expresses his robust and immortal religion in the greatness of mankind.
  • The poem can be humorous about war and military generals. The rhetorical figure of  the poem is ironic.
  • Bertolt Brecht skillfully uses irony and satire throughout the poem, convincing the reader of the foolishness of military generals and moreover of the futility of war.
  • The author aims at a military general and tauntingly tells him that in every war, it is the poor soldier who fights and dies, giving glory and honor to military generals. The tank can be a powerful vehicle because it will destroy forests and kill many people. But unfortunately, it is a mistake as long as there is no person driving the vehicle, it becomes as useless as the general helpless without the bravely fighting soldiers beneath him.
  • The writer, tells the general that his bomber plane is extremely powerful because it flies faster than the wind and can carry essential items. But it is useless without a mechanic, who is a standard soldier within the force.
  • Brecht ironically points out how machines dehumanize or make  human beings helpless and how we have become the slave of the machine. Machines are unreal to man and they are utterly useless unless used.
  • However, it is a tragedy that machines use humans as slaves, because percentage of all skillful, inventive and useful work is done by machines.
  • Finally, the author tells the general that man is extremely useful to the general because soldiers and machines are used equally in warfare and attaches additional importance to machines. The soldiers will fight and kill people but have a flaw which is that a person can think.
