What I wrote is that ocean currents affect air mass in 2 ways.

1) It changes the characteristics of air mass above as they move very slowly and can be considered stationary for small amount of time.
2) They impact the movement of air mass. I mentioned Atmospheric circulation and surface ocean currents are interlinked. Thus they have a role in movement of airmasses and can cause frontogenesis .

I may be wrong, please provide your views.

Air movement causes ocean current not vice versa.
(el Nino is exception, where warming of ocean surface causes change in pressure difference and thus Walker cell)

First point is valid. And fog is very important phenomenon of coastal regions air mass. It affects weather, navigation, agriculture and water requirement (arid coastal region uses it for agri/drinking)

The impact of ocean currents on air mass behavior's are listed below.

  • After acquiring the characteristics of the source region, air masses spread to nearby areas.
  • According to the source area and the area it is moving over, an air mass can be either warm or cold.
  • Consequently, when a cold air mass crosses an oceanic region with a warm current, the lower layers of the air mass are heated from below, and the vertical temperature gradient increases (normal lapse rate).
  • This produces a vertical convective current to occur, which makes the atmosphere unstable due to cyclonic action.
  • When a cold air mass crosses a cold current that conveys anticyclonic behavior, the total opposite occurs.
  • Ships in the center of the ocean often have poor visibility due to temperature inversion, which occurs when a warm air mass moves over a cold current.

The impact of ocean currents on air mass behavior's are listed above.
