Indian tradition of Encyclopaedia writing in ancient times

1. Marcus Varro, scholar and writer from ancient Rome, developed Nine Books of Disciplines which became a standard for the encyclopaedias developed in future.

2. The nine disciplines that were differentiated were grammar, logic, astronomy, medicine, geometry, architecture, arithmetic, rhetoric and musical theory.

3. Henceforth, the writers followed these categories and based their writings accordingly.

4. In India, Brit Samhita falls under the category of encyclopaedias and covers topics like astrology, architecture, climate, animals, beauty and others.
