The French government under Emperor Louis XVI was under high dept percentage in the 18th century.

The government forced heavy taxes on the French peasants to meet its expenses.

The king and the ministers lived a luxurious life whereas the common people of France lived in misery and were laden with heavy taxation.

The fudual system gave the big landlords the power to impose various privileges and also made them work for long hours with less wages.

The ministry also collected different taxes called the Tithe from the people.

The rice of bread increased due to less productivity but the wages of the poor people was fixed which made the survival hard for them.
