❇ Digestion of proteins starts when food enters the stomach.

❇ In stomach gastric gland secrets gastric juice which contains HCl , enzyme pepsin and mucus. Enzyme pepsin acts only in acidic medium created by stomach and it begins the digestion of proteins in food to form smaller molecules.

❇ Then next step of protein digestion takes place in small intestine.

❇In small intestine pancreatic juice is secreted by pancreas which contains trypsin and lipase.

❇ Trypsin acts in alkaline medium. This alkaline medium is created by the bile juice made in liver. Trypsin digests the proteins.

❇ Then small intestine secrets intestinal juice which further completes the remaining digestion of food , in which proteins are digested to amino acids.

In this way protein is digested as the food passes through different parts of alimentary canal.
