Major reasons for poverty in India are

  1. The rapidly increasing population
  2. Low agricultural production
  3. less utilization of resources
  4. Increasing price
  5. Low economic development

  • The rapidly increasing population:

In India, majority of the population is from villages who keep on increasing the birth rate with out knowledge of its consequences. Indian population is known to rise by 2.2% each year.

  • Low agricultural production:

India is a developing country and still relies on old technical methods for agriculture. Factors such as illiteracy, low capital , using old technologies are the major reasons for low agricultural production in India.

  • Less utilization of resources:

In India, due to unemployment, the resources are not put to use as they should be. This is also another reason for poverty in India.

  • Increasing price:

In India, the prices of goods keeps increasing without the promotion of the poor people. Hence, this is one of the major reasons that a poor person keeps becoming poor in India.

  • Low economic development:

The economic rate of development is low in India which is another reason for poverty.
