The main causes of poverty in India are as follows: It is said that “a country is poor because it is poor.” ... Low level of saving reduces the scope for investment; low level of investment yields low income and thus the circle of poverty goes on indefinitely.

The main causes for poverty in India are:

• Hestorical reasons i.e. the low level development under British administration.

• Some policies of the government led to unemployment in rural areas.

• Green revolution led to unemployment ad it used modern techniques and less labour.

• Increasing population is one of the major reason.
