In India contempt of court is of two types: Civil contempt: Under Section 2(b) of the Contempt of Courts Act of 1971, civil contempt has been defined as wilful disobedience to any judgment, decree, direction, order, writ or other process of a court or wilful breach of an undertaking given to a court.

Contempt of court:

  • 'Contempt of court' occurs when somebody risks unfairly manipulating a court case.
  • It may stop somebody from getting a fair trial and can affect a trial's outcome. Contempt of court comprises: disobeying or disregarding a court order.

Here are some of the features of contempt of court:  

Anything that restrains or impairs the freedom of limits of the judicial actions.

• A conduct that inclines to bring the authority and administration of law into contempt or disregard during litigation.
