The first plains were formed due to the cooling of the lava flowing on the earth.Erosion and depositions can also create plains. Types of plains are 
-Abyssal plains
-Glacial plains
-Depositional plains
-Erosional plains

  • These are structurally depressed areas of the earth's surface. An example includes the North American plains etc.  Types includes Outwash Plain, the Lava Field and Alluvial Plain.
  • The plains have originated due to the emergence of landmass form the seas due to the active earth movements which were earlier filed with the sediments and in due course of time got deposited.
  • Due to the far and wide extends they are densely populated and are a source of the fertile river valleys and a good site for cultivation and raising of the livestock and provides a suitable climate of habitat for the survival of man.
