That's a great question!

In terms of philosophy, Politics in the East and the West are very different and that way that the role of the government, politicians are public institute is also previewed very differently.

For example, in a country like England (West) with a history of Democracy, politicians are generally seen as serving the average person. In a country like Thailand (East) where there has been a long tradition of monarchy and army rule, politicians are seen as powerful and privileged few who are usually above the law.

We also have to look at the difference in the core philosophies or collectivism and individualism.

In the US,North American philosophies, preference is given to the rights of the Individual. An individual's rights to privacy, health, jobs etc is seen as having a lot of worth.
This results in policies that can benefit individuals even though they might be poor for the general public.

An example is America's lack of a universal health care system since the majority of the population does not want to 'Chip' in a service, they might not use themselves.

On the other hand, is the post-World War II philosophy of collectivism in North-Western European countries which lead to the development of a huge social net which has given rise to the likes of NHS in the United Kingdom.

Hence, the philosophies of different countries and nations can have a huge impact on how local politics are development over the years
