Answer:

POWER POTENTIAL IN THE NORTH EASTERN REGION

In terms of hydro power, the North Eastern Region has the potential of about 58,971 MW i.e. almost 40% of the country's total hydro potential. Additionally, the Region also has abundant resource of coal, oil and gas for thermal power generation. In spite of such huge potential the Region ranks lowest in the country in terms of per capita energy consumption. This is mainly due to inhospitable climatic conditions, remote location and inaccessibility of geographical locations etc. ultimately leading to lesser industrialisation.

However with continual improvement of infrastructure and communication facilities, the North East region stands to become the Power House of India by utilising its surplus power potential especially in the hydel sector

Answer:

Jammu & Kashmir has the potential to generate about 20,000 MW of hydropower (11,283 MW in Chenab basin, 3,084 MW in Jhelum, 500 MW in Ravi and 1,608 MW in Indus). Once the entire power potential is exploited, Jammu & Kashmir can be turned into a net energy exporter.
