The Commissioner is appointed by the State Government, to inquire and decide into matters relating to injuries or accidents, caused to an employee of a registered organisation coming under Schedule II of the Act, during the course of his employment.

The Commissioner may further appoint SMEs’ (Subject-Matter-Experts) to assist him with his inquiries and his powers to decide the compensation, settle or deal with it in a suitable manner will supersede the powers of civil courts.

The Workmen’s Compensation Act of 1923, provides for compensation to employees or their dependants.
