The 'presence of starch' can be tested with the 'help of iodine solution'. The foods which contain starch will 'turn blue-black' when iodine solution is put on them.

Potatoes contain starch and will turn blue black or brown when iodine solution is put on them. Potatoes store starch in the form of amylase.

ONIONS:

Onions remain unchanged in colour when iodine solution is out on them because they do not contain any starch.
