It is natural that our unfulfilled wills excitement and passions appears as dream in our sleeping time
2. Transport vehicles like trucks, railway wagons, ship holds, tractors, bullock carts etc. are usually found to have infected grains in their crevices which are a source of pest infestation to the transporting grains. So, before transportation of grains, the transporting vehicles should be thoroughly cleaned.
Electric vaccum cleaners give much better result as compared to ordinary brooms and brushes. After cleaning, the transporting vehicles should be treated with suitable insecticides and disinfectants.
For smaller transporting agencies like train wagons, trucks, tractors etc. spraying of DDT (dichloro diphenyl trichloroethane) and BHC (benzene hexachloride) is quite effective. For shipment of grains fumigation of ship with hydrogen cyanide (8 oz. per 1000 c.ft) or contact spray containing pyrethrum extract (0.8% pyrethrum) gives satisfactory result.
3. For bag storage of grains “pucca” cement concrete or brick made store houses are recommended. For bulk storage cement concrete “Khattis” made underground or above ground is the choic.
4. Storage in airtight bins helps maintaining insect free grains.
5. Before use, the go downs (stores) should be cleaned of all dirt, rubbish, webbing and refuse materials. All cracks, crevices, holes in wall, floor or ceiling should be filled with cement. Uneven floor, wall or ceiling should be brought to level. The store should preferably white washed before storing grains:
6. Before storing grains the go downs (store houses) should be disinfected. Following methods of disinfestations of store rooms are recommended
(a) Fumigation of empty store house with hydrogen cynide (HCN). Hydrogen cynide is one of the most widely used fumigant of the world. It is highly poisonous and needs expert handling.
(b) DDT (dichloro/diphenyl/trichloroethane) and BHC (Benzene hexachloride) in the form of smoke, dust or spray at concentration of 50 and 100 mg active ingredient per sq. meter, respectively gives highly satisfactory result. Nowadays, excess use of DDT and BHC which are organo-chloride insecticides for stored grains is supposed to produce health hazards.
(c) Malathion spray @ 100 mg/sq. m is a better choice.
(d) Burning of sulphur is also effective.
