1. The labour was not easy to handle. Labourers were needed specially at a time when they were busy with their rice cultivation.

2. Zamindars were not investing in the improvement of land.

3. The ryots found this system extremely oppressive as the tax was extremely difficult to pay.

4. Any zamindar who failed to pay the tax list his zamindari and numerous zamindaris were sold off at auctions organised by the Company.
