plants take in water from the soil through their roots. This water called xylem sap is carried by the xylem vessels .
the function of the root hairs is to absorb water and minerals from the soil by the process of diffusion .The water and minerals absorbed by the root hairs pass from cell to cell by osmosis through the epidermis, root cortex, endodermis ,and reach the root xylem

Answer:

Explanation:

The roots are the structures which have numerous root hairs. These root hairs  are responsible for increasing the surface area for the absorption of water and minerals from the soil.

These root hairs are in contact with the water already present in the soil. The water enters the plant root hair by the process of osmosis. The osmosis is the process of movement of water from the region of high concentration to the region of low concentration via semi-permeable membrane. This process helps in performing the root absorption.
