Akbar 's religious policy is called "Din-e-ilahi",  meaning literally the "integrity of all religions". In this new religious policy, Akbar sought to harmonize all major religions' main policies.

Explanation:

  • His "liberal religious policies" & "liberal ideas" are related to Akbar. The principle of shared understanding and unity between adherents of different faiths and fair protection of all religions was introduced. He was trying to harmonize relationships. He created a new religion named "Din-i-Ilahi," which was based on the common values of all religions.
  • During his life time the 'eclectic reason' faith was practiced only by 20–25 notable 'adherents.' Akbar 's faith was based on Islam, Hinduism, Zoroastria, Jews, Christianity & Buddhism.Upon Akbar's death , the religion of Din-i Ilahi too died.
  • Din-e Ilahi emphasized honesty, commitment and compassion. As Sufi Islam did, it saw God's search for salvation as one main feature; as Catholicism it saw celibacy as a virtue and as Jainism it condemned the slaughter of animals. As regards his rites, it was extensively borrowed from Zoroastrianism and rendered fire and the Sun as objects of God's worship
  • The new faith had no texts, there were no priests and, in addition, it had none of its adherents – only the advisors of Akbar. Din-e Ilahi is better presented with the emperor himself in the middle as a state religion. Being a supreme authority on all religious matters, Akbar not only understood and enforced the islamic law, but did so. Finally, politics rather than religion became the focus of the modern faith. The thorny issue of how a Muslim ruler can rule a predestined Hindu state was solved by Din-e Ilahi
  • But Din-e Ilahi was vigorously opposed with the proclaimed heresy by many Muslim clerics. Alhough its founder did not survive, the new religion sparked a strong fundamentalist reaction amongst Indian Muslims
