Guru is defined as:

In Hinduism, a guru is a personal religious teacher and spiritual advisor. In subjects of essential interest, he is a teacher and especially an intellectual guide.

Guru's job and responsibilities:

  • A good guru is one who tells it as it is.
  • He doesn't stop there, though.
  • He also encourages others to be honest.
  • He is in command of his indriyas.
  • The guru guides the pupil and guards him against making the same mistakes again and over again.
  • The guru's principal responsibility is to provide total liberation to the student, including freedom from rebirths, karma, and all forms of suffering.
  • God returns the longing truth seeker to Himself in the form of the guru.
