Environmental communication is a useful and even necessary instrument for taking action.

  • An organization's engagement in environmental concerns depends heavily on communication. The physical environment has a key role in whether the communication is successful or not.
  • For interactions with persons who are communication fragile, little alterations to physical surroundings can help create a friendlier climate for communication.
  • Here location, time and comfort, are important factors. It is crucial in enabling successful communication.
  • For instance, if a person uses a wheelchair but the meeting space is not accessible for wheelchairs, taking part in bigger meetings or attending any consultations held in that space will be uncomfortable or possibly impossible.
  • In the environmental setting, time is crucial. A person in the one-time zone may call another in a different one needing help but unable to reach it due to time confusion, if the time of day is ignored.
  • The availability, readiness, and willingness of participants are compromised when meetings are not scheduled in advance rather than asking coworkers to meet at last minute or adjusting schedules with little notice.
