After independence of 1947, boundaries of several states were altered so as to ensure that people speaking the same language resides in the same state. Though, it was feared that it would split up the nation, however, it bought people closer to each other.

Language Policy:

At the time of independence, 40% of Indians spoke Hindi. Thus, instead of selecting Hindi as the official language, our leaders adopted a very cautious attitude while forming the language policy. They besides hindi, recognised 21 other languages as scheduled languages.
