Thanks to the help rendered by satellites, weather forecasting has become quite accurate today as compared to the pattern of forecasting in the pre-satellite era. The country's meteorological department issues weather warnings through television and radio before an impending cyclone or tornado. Based on this warning, the Government and the NGOs must ensure people are evacuated from coastal areas well in advance of the arrival of storms or tornadoes. Adequate shelters must be created in advance to house the affected people, so also must sufficient foodstuff and clothing be stored and provided. Mineral water must be stored in large volumes, as also medicines and other necessities for the sustenance and well-being of the sheltered population.
